The Client

For nearly a century, SCU has trained men and women for careers in chiropractic care and alternative medicine. Their rigorous hands-on approach to education has led to an unparalleled recognition by accrediting agencies and tremendous success for their alumni.

The Challenge

Len Rosenthal, now Executive Director of SCU Public Affairs, came to Juxtaflo in early 2007, to strategize with him on redesigning their 350+ page website. Len wanted to overhaul the look and feel. He also wanted to make sure current students, prospective students, alumni, and patients could all get the information they needed within 2-3 clicks.

The SCU main campus is located on a beautiful 38-acre campus in Whittier, California, attracting a vibrant student community. Len wanted these aspects to be highlighted on the web site.

Len also wanted a way to better communicate news and events to the campus community.

And finally, SCU had purchased the license for Ektron, a content management system, so the new site needed to work within the Ektron framework.

The Solution

Juxtaflo began by doing a quick redesign of their home page (not shown here). This gave their old, out-dated a site a much-needed face lift.

In the fall of 2007, Juxtaflo worked closely with key SCU players and began building the new site map and implementation strategy for SCU's new website. After extensive external research, Juxtaflo recommended integrating many new features into the new site. These included news feeds, current events, rotating home page pictures, and video clips. We also recommended incorporating SCU's rich Flickr library and growing YouTube videos into the site. We also recommened incorporating right side bar items so that website visitors could quickly locate important downloads, links, and other resources.

In early 2008, we began creating the content and shortly thereafter, we started working on the new graphic design (always the fun part!).

Juxtaflo partnered with Ektron developer Thinklogic to build the site including numerous new site features mentioned above.

We love many aspects of this site. One of our favorites is the Flash slideshow on home page that pulls photos from SCUHS Flickr account. It's all handled dynamically, allowing SCU's talented web coordinator, Mario Zepeda, easily upload new photos, keeping the site current and interesting. We also love the right side bar components that highlight Events, SCU's multimedia (YouTube videos, Flickr photos), Apply Now, news, and other important information.

This was a highly enjoyable and rewarding project for us. The Juxtaflo team (Gina, Chad, Cari, Noah, Steve) truly enjoyed working with the SCU team (Len and Mario) as well as the ThinkLogic team (thank you, Ryan and Chris!).  We wish SCU the greatest of success!
