The Client

If you don't recognize the name Oxo right off the bat, there's a very good chance you have their fine wares such as their Good Grips line in your kitchen. We certainly do. Oxo International is based out of New York and are dedicated to providing innovative consumer products that make everyday living easier.

Oxo came to us through Bally Design, an industrial design firm in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Challenge

Bally designed and engineered the scale and needed a good way to test the functionality of the digital interface. They initially tried to do this with PowerPoint but PowePoint wasn't working, so Bally called us and asked if we could build the scale in Flash. We said, "Of course we can."

The Solution

We were able to exceed their expectations and create a completely useable Flash virtual prototype that worked exactly how the real version is supposed to. They were able to test the functionality and make changes easier and cheaper than if they were working with a real prototype. In the end, the virtual prototype was so clear and refined that they were able to send it to China as a blueprint for production.

It functions just like a real world scale would. We created different weighted items that can be dragged and dropped onto the scale. We also created shortcut buttons so people could easily see what happened when the battery wore down or something timed out.

The best part of the project when we received a FedEx box with the actual Oxo food scale. We knew exactly how use it because we it works just like the virtual version we developed. How cool is it to see our virtual prototype converted to the actual thing!
