Did you know that electronic discards are one of the fastest growing segments of our nation's waste stream? More than 75 percent of all computers ever sold remain stockpiled in our closets, garages, office storage rooms and warehouses. It's a real problem and we're here to help!
What is e-waste?
It's a term used for electronic products that are nearing the end of their life. Sometimes they will still work, but the technology/design is old. These electronics include computers, televisions, VCRs, stereos, copiers, and fax machines. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled.
There are many options...
- Sell it. Try placing an add in the Recycler, on Ebay or on Craig's List.
- Donate it to a school or charitable organization. For example, Goodwill Industries proudly accepts your computer monitors.
- Give it a away - my favorite way is posting an OFFER at Freecycle. Check out the site and see if there is a group new you. It's fast and easy and I've always been able to get someone to come pick up my electronic stuff. You can also post a message in the Free section on Craig's List.
- Check on your city or state government. For example, this organization is recommended by the State of California.
Any other ideas?
Please let me know!
